Eminem – “Spacebound” (VIDEO)
Marshall Mathers, better know as Eminem or Slim Shady, is credited for his deeply depressing lyrics, morbid subject matter and silly wordplay and similes that he incorporates into his music. However, “Spacebound” takes his listeners to a place of heartbreak and hurt, involving the work of a distrustful lover.
Recovery, his current album, has been a successful collection of songs that inspire, stimulate and emotionally connect with his faithful audience. The title Recovery is fitting for the album, because it marks a significant turn in his life as an artist and human being. Nonetheless, there is a great variety of songs and subject matter, ranging from “No Love,” to “Don’t Back Down” and “Going Through Changes.”
With no doubt, “Spacebound” has been one music video release that the Eminem followers – as well as music lovers, in general – have been anticipating. Perhaps it is due to the painfully universal subject matter of love and hurt, or because of its hard-hitting and graphic scenes of violence and death. Either way, the video received over 2 million Youtube hits, and it only premiered this Monday!
True, the video displays that girlfriend Sasha Grey has cheated on Eminem. And yes, he retaliates by, “taking matters into his own hands.” It is also evident that he commits music video suicide, a practice that many musical artists use to get their message across. Several critics would suggest that this video is grueling and unforgivingly explicit, dubbing Eminem’s artistic aesthetic as controversial and a negative influence on the youth. However, even more viewers who are open minded and who understand how crazy love can make you feel, will dub this video a masterpiece.
