Houston hip-hop icons Bun B, Slim Thug, Trae and others mingled with newer faces and college students at a Tuesday night symposium on the Rice University campus, hosted by the Houston Enriches Rice Education (HERE) Project.Rotating panels discussed the history, success and future of local hip-hop over the past 25 years. There were several acknowledgments of the late DJ Screw and UGK’s Pimp C, along with nonstop kudos for Houston’s Rap-A-Lot Records and its founder, J. Prince.

Prince received the first HERE Project Legacy Award and briefly took the floor. He seemed humbled by the honor.

Depending on yourself to make the decisions can really be upsetting and frustrating. It can take many people a long time to build a strong moral system. It doesn’t really just happen if you know what I mean.
