New Month, New Music….

These are latest tracks released last week by a few underground artists and few mainstream ones. Top picks at the bottom. Take a listen and let us know, which tracks will make your Summer  ’11 playlist??

Beyonce’ ft Andre 3000- Party

I guess because the song is called Party I expected it to be a club hit a la “Get Me Bodied” but alas, Party is a summer jam with an old school 90s sample which compliments Andre’ 3000’s laidback style. Like most Beyonce songs this one is pretty catchy with a great beat produced by Kanye.  Andre’ 3000 verse is nice but it still leaves something to be desired. Overall it’s a nice song, although it’s not really “standout.”

Big Sean – So Much More

I wish Big Sean would stop using lines over but nonetheless this is a good track. Big Sean uses this track to pour his heart out about his newfound success and why failure really isn’t an option for him. Probably not single material but I feel like this song has a definite spot on the album.

Dom Kennedy ft Skeme- No Stress

A nostalgic toned track from Cali rappers Dom Kennedy and Skeme, No Stress has a laid back beat perfect for cruising around too that compliments the smooth Cali style of rapper that Dom has to offer. Plus kudos to them for The Mack reference at the end of the track.

Drake- Marvin’s Room

Drake dropped Marvin’s Room last Thursday and it became an instant hit on twitter. Relatable subject matter, a simple baseline and Drake’s singing gives this song a sort of So Far So Gone vibe. Besides who doesn’t love a song about drunk dialing??!

Kelly Rowland ft Fabolous, Busta Rhymes, and Trey Songz

KRo just may have the hit of the summer on her hands with Motivation. So far the song has been getting crazy airplay all over the country and remixes are being made left to right. This version is pretty cool although Fab kills it and kind of makes everybody on the track irrelevant.

All together it seems as though June will be a great month for music… stay tuned for next week’s recap!!
