So you had some comments a little while ago about Keyshia Cole and about Rakim and I know specifically with Rakim being that you’re in the hip hop realm that rubbed some people the wrong way. Can you elaborate a little more on how you were feeling then or maybe how you’re still feeling?
T: It’s like both of those situations were the same, I felt slighted know what I’m saying. People were in my town and they didn’t understand that the promoters called me in to bring more fans in because their tickets weren’t selling and my fans are loyal so they’re going to come. 6,000 of them are going to come to Kansas City shows easily know what I’m saying. So if their ticket sales are low what the main artists don’t know is that whoever the promoter is called us while we’re on our tour and said “Hey can you make this date man?
Can we pencil you in because ticket sales are low and we need you to see if you can bring more people in?” So we said yeah and they don’t understand why I go on last. The stars all they know if they don’t really know of Tech N9ne, which I don’t know how, is they don’t really know about Tech N9ne.
And they before doing their research like Keyshia Cole say “I’m not going on before no motherfucking local motherfucker! I was just on David Letterman last night! I sold this much, fuck that!” and stormed out, broke my heart know what I’m saying because I really love her. I really love her music.

T: Yeah, know what I’m saying but I’m the one on Pulstar, #3 on Pulstar grossing the most on sales right below Jay-Z and Kanye. You know and I’m independent with no video and no radio. So it’s like they don’t see me on TV so I understand why Rakim probably don’t know about Tech Nyne know what I’m saying. I guess I understand why Keyshia Cole don’t really know about Tech N9ne because I’m not on MTV Jams every day, I’m not on BET or 106 and Park like they are know what I’m saying. I’m underground so maybe that’s what it is but I do my research and I expect other people to. So if you go to somebody’s town and they’re going on last there must be a reason because if I go on before everybody’s going to leave, all my fans are going to leave and that’s what happens know what I mean.
D: Is it things like that which really cause that “FTI”, which I believe is “Fuck the industry”, is that what causes that attitude? Just things like that over the years?
T: No, the artists didn’t really make me say F the industry know what I’m saying. It wasn’t the artists that made me start that around 2000, 2001, 2002. It’s the people who dictate what goes on radio or who dictate what goes on video.
The people who won’t take chances with new music to make hip hop grow know what I’m saying. Those are the PD’s , those are the DJs, those are the people who really control this wheel we call the music industry and we need more daredevils know what I’m saying, that will really take chances and that’s what FTI was for.
Naw, I didn’t disrespect anybody in that song. I said “Keyshia was acting bia-bia” I wouldn’t even say the word know what I’m saying.
D: yeah, you didn’t even say that she was one you just said that.
T: Un-uh. So at the end I said “I know I ain’t the only one that know you can be bitchy” know what I’m saying. And that “being bitchy” is not really saying much. I didn’t say “You Bitch!” know what I’m saying because I don’t really feel like that in my heart for her because I really love what she does. I think she’s sexy. I just want to take her out to eat. When she was in Kansas City I wasn’t tripping know what I’m sizzlin’.
So it’s like I was just heartbroken, know what I’m saying, a little bit that she didn’t really know who I was but rightly so because I ain’t on TV. But to talk down on me when she don’t know me know what I’m saying. In Islam they teach you don’t speak about that man if the man’s not in the room.
I don’t really know what was said with Rakim. I don’t know if he spoke ill about me but he said he’s not going on before me you know what I’m saying, because he’s the god. So I’m like okay I’m the king, and this is my town, and that’s why I’m going on last and he didn’t come to the show. And I really wanted to meet him and shake his hand because he’s one of my influences; you know what I’m saying, in hip hop. He’s one of the ones that made me want to rap. When you asked me my influences Eric B and Rakim was in there no matter what I felt know what I’m saying, because I’m a man. And I just understand that was that particular incident but I’m over it.
I wrote the song, they probably heard it, probably laughed at it and kept moving. Get money know what I’m sizzlin. I hate that I have to say things or speak to people in ways that’s not positive. When it’s not positive I don’t want to have to speak about Keyshia Cole in that light because I really dig her man know what I’m saying but I write my heart. I don’t want to have to speak about Rakim in that kind of negative light but I got to speak what my heart feels so that’s what I do.
D: Right, right. Well songs like “Killing You” and Pinnochiho” those were real interesting to me. I don’t think they were necessary the best one song on the album, the most recent album KOD, but “Killing You” I thought was interesting because you were painting this picture and we only know so much about you from your albums but you put yourself out there. You say this is who I am and you talk about being with women etc.
T: I did it too much on that song. I let too much be known. I gave away the game on that song. I let a woman know in that song that I am not the one to fuck with and that ain’t what I want, I want women to fuck with me know what I’m sizzlin’. I really gave it away in that song and I was like “Ooohh! I can’t believe I said that”, “Ooohhh!, I can’t believe I just read my rights to myself” in that song know what I’m saying. I say:

D: A lot of dudes were feeling you though. A lot of dudes were like “yep, that’s exactly how I feel”. Especially when you was like “I warned you”
T: Yeah I warned you. Why can’t you see me for the animal I am I warned you. Exposed my beast inside still you were willing to you stupid ass bitch. So now you’re mad at me because I told you in the beginning and you’re like “Why can’t you be normal!?” Because I am abnormal baby.
D: Yeah. Earlier you said you didn’t do like horrorcore, where did “Pinnochiho” come from?
T: “Pinnochiho” comes from my life know what I’m saying. It’s like if you think about it he says um, it’s about a guy who I just say I want to be normal.
