Tech N9ne: After KOD
D: I’m glad you said that because me and other people listened to this song and we were like “why are we feeling for this character that’s eating people” but I guess that’s what it was because it came through that it was real life.
T: I just put thee theatrics on it know what I’m saying. I do that a lot in my music. It’s like on Absolute Power is a song called “Worst Enemy” and I’m like
“I lost my wife because of you! I’m losin my life because of you!
I even had sex and a baby with the crazy bitch you introduced me to!
But I’m straight depressed, I hate your flesh
But fate was just, belate to Tech, laid to rest
Everytime you got drawers, you made my poor little life fall
Nigga ya got balls, I should have never…”
It’s like I’m really talking about my dick know what I’m saying but you don’t know, you think I’m talking about a person but at the end I said “I’m talking to you, Who? My dick!” and everybody’s like Wow he’s not talking about a person he’s talking about his genitalia you know what I’m saying, I usually do that in my music. I put theatrics in it to make people think it’s something else but when I speak about eating a woman I think women are delicious.
And I remember telling women like; “if you come over here I’m going to eat you alive” and they be like “Ooh I can’t wait” you know what I’m saying. Like I’m psycho but I’m serious. You know what I’m saying like cunnilingus eat you. Suck on your beautiful body eat you. Smile, I want to lick your teeth. I tell chicks I want to lick your teeth, smile. They be like “What?!” I be like Smile I want to lick your teeth that’s how much I adore a woman. When I say girl crazy on “Misery Loves Company” I’m not playing
“Girl Crazy, I know nobody can save me from spreading my crazy love, it’s crazy love. I’m dipping out with your lady to give her some crazy love. Ain’t trying to have no more babies so I cover my crazy love, enough to make her go crazy”
Know what I’m saying because all this connects if you know Tech N9ne know what I’m saying like this nigga is crazy for women.
D: if you listen to even one album of yours or more than one you’ll definitely figure that out quick. So earlier I asked you about your influences what about current artists? Who do you like that’s right now in the game?
T: Who do I like right now in this game? I love Drake. I love what they doing. I love Jay-Z, love Ludacris, I love Eminem, love Outkast. Who brand new do I love? Let’s see, Lil Wayne’s in there I dig Lil Wayne I think he’s clever when he want to be. Nicki Minaj is hardcore to me. I just love creativity. I love when people take rap and take it somewhere else know what I’m saying.
“Ask Lil Wayne who the 5 star bitch is” know what I’m saying just really charismatic man I love people to take it there. She don’t sound like nobody else that’s why she’s going to be a millionaire it’s going to wonderful for her and I wish her the best. She really captivates me. I really love looking at her body, and her beautiful teeth, and her skin but most of all she has a really wonderful flow, I dig her man.
D: Ok, cool. Let me ask, well not to get too personal but you’ve introduced us to your family in music both ups and downs with wife and even talked about your kids a little bit on “The Rain” and things like that. Well, first let me be polite and say how’s the family doing?
T: Family’s wonderful. We just got off of a Caribbean cruise man know what I’m saying. Me and the wife are better friends than we’ve ever been know what I’m sizzlin’. We’ve been separated for six years but we’re really, really good friends that we can take the kids out and take them to the Bahamas, and take them to St Marten and St. Thomas and everything. Take them to Disney World know what I’m saying we’re good. We can go out to eat and laugh but she knows that I am Tech N9ne and I’m never there and that’s not a good thing for a woman that deserves everything.
D: Well that’s good you can be cordial and get along for the sake of the kids at least.
T: Yeah totally and I spoil all of them
D: How do they feel about being included in the music both her and the kids?
T: My wife don’t want to be included in the music no more.
D: She said that to you?
T: Yeah she said don’t talk about me ever again because it was just like “This Ring” and “I Love You But Fuck You” it ain’t never been beautiful you are you know what I’m saying. It’s always been the bad things so she’s like “don’t say my name no more ok” and I said ok. The kids want to rap on the song with me.
My 10 year-old Rainbow she just told me the other day because I was just in LA interviewing Brother Lynch for Murder Dog and I got to see my kids because my little girls live in LA with the wife know what I’m sizzlin’. So my little Rainbow, she’s the one that said “I love you Daddy” at the end of “The Rain”, she said “Daddy just give me more work, give me like 12 bars or something. Daddy you gave me 4 words just give me some more words, at least get 13”. I was like (laughs).
So little Rainbow she’s 10 years old, she’s trying to get on the mike real quick. So they might be included in the music. My son Donny, he’s 15 and Leah’s 15 about to be 16, and she’s the one who did the whole verse to “The Rain”, She ain’t really tripping off being a rapper. She wants to do lawyer-type stuff and she could do it. She’s really smart at 15. Donny wants to go on tour with me. He’s like “Dad I can’t wait until I turn 18, I want to go on tour” and I’m like oh man I don’t want to pollute him like that.
D: Have all that around the kid.
T: Yeah man, because he’s a prettyboy you know what I’m saying that’s like aw man I don’t know if I want to do him like that. I’m like Donny you sure you don’t want to go to college? He’s like “I mean after I go on tour with you I’ll go to college”
D: I don’t know if college is going to measure up.
T: That’s what I’m saying, he’ll be 16 this year that’s 2 more years.
D: As good a time as you can have in college I don’t think it quite compares to “Strictly Strange Tour” or any of that. That’s cool. Well I can’t thank you enough for spending a little bit of time talking to us especially as busy as you are.
T: Much love to you bruh.
D: And to you Tech. Can I ask you, are you ever going to leave the Midwest a little further and get into the D.C. area and do a show?
T: Yes man. We used to do them back in the day but nobody really knew that we were there because it was an underground movement and we were there with ICP and stuff. Nobody really knew that we were there you know what I’m saying and we would walk around DC and it’d be all black folks. We were looking somewhere to get our hair braided and you could go on every corner up there you know what I’m saying so I’m like hell yeah there’s black folks everywhere.
D: Oh yeah, especially back in the day.
T: They wasn’t at the show though because they know about that underground rock and roll stuff but they ain’t know Tech N9ne was going to be on there bustin’. So I’mma make my way back to DC trust me.
D: I hope so man, I hope so I still haven’t seen you live, I can’t wait. I’m hoping I won’t have to go all the way to Kansas City but I might have to.
T: No you don’t nuh-uh. I’m about to be on so many tours this year man don’t even trip. I gotta do “Rock the Bells” again this year, I gotta do “Paid Dues”, I gotta do my tour “Strange Days TouD: A Decade of Excellence”, I got to do so many things, I got to do stuff overseas. You gon’ catch me.
D: Stay busy huh?
T: Totally. After I get off the phone with you I’m about to finish this song called “Too Many Girls” 4 more bars and I’ll be done.
D: Cool. Alright man I’ll let you get to that. Thank you very much, good luck with the EP I’mma definitely check that out.
T: Much love brother.
