Houston’s, Radio-One, KBXX 97.9 The Box, recently teamed up with The Houston Department of Health and Human Services and AIDS Foundation, in conjunction with the NAACAP, Houston Branch and Amerigroup Community Care in a city-wide awareness campaign with the goal of testing 15,000 Houston residents for HIV and syphilis in a two week span.

The goal of the campaign was to provide free and confidential HIV and syphilis screening to 15,000 youth and young adults between the ages of 15-40 in the City of Houston. In exchange for being tested and consulted, the volunteered persons obtained a ticket for Houston’s biggest concert of the summer; Hip Hop for HIV Concert.

With help from national recording artists Plies, Pleasure P, Day 26, Melanie Fiona, Bobby Valentino, LeToya Luckett, Twista, Yung Problemz, Yung L.A., G.T., Gorilla Zoe, Bun B, Fat Pimp and Ginuwine, their goal was met, making the turn out the largest HIV and syphilis testing event in the United States.
