Nomadic Wax Releases Special News Report, Thawra, on Youth & Hip-hop in the Arab World
The newest release from the Nomadic Wax team, Thawra, goes inside the global community of Arab hip-hop and its prevalence in grassroots political movements across the Arab world.
Thawra is a 45-minute radio program that features as much music as it does insight. The team brings you the story from a global perspective, showcasing a catalog of sounds that marries well to the variety of Arab and Arab-American voices heard throughout the program.
Western hip-hop was founded as a grassroots movement and was called to action as a resistance against sociopolitical stereotypes and racial stratification. It only makes sense that similar scenarios will be recreated in disenfranchised and struggling communities around the world. Youth across the Middle East and North Africa are responding to their specific situations through hip-hop, by creating it or by being affected and reached through it. Listen to the landscape of sounds and perspectives on Thawra, and you can begin to see what is happening across the Arab world through the eyes of its hip-hop community.
