Obama Fires Up Black Leaders Against GOP

The United States’ first black president Saturday called on black voters to reignite the passion that saw him elected to office as he came out swinging against Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections.

President Barack Obama, addressing the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in Washington D.C., said the GOP — which he referred to as “the other side” in his speech — was “a crowd … that wants to do what’s right politically, instead of what’s right — period.”

“We’ve got more work to do; we’ve got a plan to finish. Of course, the other side has a plan too. It’s a plan to turn back the clock on all the progress we’ve made,” he said.

“I need everybody here to go back to your neighborhoods, and your workplaces, to your churches, and barbershops, and beauty shops. Tell them we have more work to do. Tell them we can’t wait to organize. Tell them that the time for action is now.”
