Sounds like you made some weird .avi which Vegas doesn't recognize orm something... this content I would try converting the stream to a Vegas native supported format like DV(according to wikipedia Vegas 8 supports DV format out of the box). and know it says "stream attributes could not be determined". You can also use the VFAPIConv utility to convert almost any AVI or MPEG file so that it can be read in Vegas.
To do something as simple as play the file, it has to be decoded. For example, it says right on the web site that Vegas does not offically support DivX. I have tried the FourCC trick with some AVI files and it was working with a fair degree of success, but now I am seeing AVI files that it will not But everyone knows that DivX does work (occasionally) with Vegas. This feature is not available right now.
I googled but all I got was suggestions for converters. Try even capturing in lossless avi format, if the computer is fast enough. Sony Vegas? Working... You can only upload files of type 3GP, 3GPP, MP4, MOV, AVI, MPG, MPEG, or RM.
That would be a huge undertaking to say the least. If not, try maybe MPEG-2, recommended in some threads for Sony Vegas. so far i had no choice but to keep breaking eggs even though i didnt insist, in fact i asked about conversion to toehr formats but wihtout any quality loss.
