As easy as it was to compile the list of the most embarrassing, yet catchiest tunes of 2008, a solid list of songs we thoroughly enjoyed was a much more daunting task. Below, you’ll find some of the hottest songs of the year according to us.

10. Young Jeezy – Put On

Jeezy ain’t the most lyrically adept cat on the list, but “put on” is a hit. In a recession, you have to put on a little bit harder, because resources are a lot less bountiful.

9. LOLLIPOP – Lil Wayne Featuring Static Major

This song was definitely on the ignorant tip, but ‘so i let her lick the [w]rapper‘ is a hot lyric. And that’s relatively indisputable.

8. Jay-Z & T.I. Featuring Kanye West & Lil Wayne – Swagga Like Us

What do you get when you put the biggest name in the UK in a song with the biggest names in the US? An absolute hit.

7. Bun B – That’s Gangsta

Rest in Peace Pimp C. Bun-B proves that the UGK grind was global in waiting. And while some may argue that II Trill has better songs, nothing speaks to Bun’s tenacity like this cut.

6. TI – Whatever you like

Nothing speaks to patriarchy better than ‘Whatever You Like.’ But nothing better feeds man’s desire to provide for his woman, both financially and physically.

5. The Game feat Lil Wayne – My Life

Hip hop is nothing if there aren’t moments of introspection intertwined with revelry, anger, and melancholy. “My Life” is a reminder that those moments of introspection are critically important.

4. Ludacris, Jay-Z & Nas – I do it for Hip Hop

Ludacris proved in this song that cats from the south aren’t just about parties, bouncing and gun toting. And he’s proved that he can flip words and hold his own with some of the greats, in this homage to hip hop.

3. TI – Live Your Life

Who would’ve thought that a man with a gun charge would be preaching to us? Well, apparently he’s got some words for us, and maybe we should listen…

2. The Roots w/ Wale and Chrisette Michelle – Rising Up

We’ve been waiting for a spectacular single from the Roots for quite some time, and this single did not disappoint. We also look forward to Wale’s rise to stardom.

1. NaS – Black President

NaS used the voice of one of the greatest of all time to remind us how far we’ve come in the short time since he was killed. This lyric says it all:

I think Obama provides Hope – and challenges minds
Of all races and colors to erase the hate
And try and love one another, so many political snakes
We in need of a break
Im thinkin’ I can trust this brotha
But will he keep it way real?
Every innocent n!gga in jail – gets out on appeal
When he wins – will he really care still?
I feel . . .

Honorable Mention – Kanye – Love Lockdown – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXUzuk_wd0k

Why Honorable Mention? only because its not hip hop, though we think this song is phenomenal.
